Angela Ayala Fund

Hello everyone. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Chris O'Connell. I have been the very fortunate recipient of a highly successful GoFundMe campaign which was set up by my amazing friends Angela  and Luis Ayala when I and my family fell on hard times in the recent past. I can not thank them, and those who donated enough for what they/you did in our time of need.

Most of you who know me also know that Luis and Angela are two of my best friends in the entire world. I have coached wrestling along side of Luis at the middle school and high school levels for many years. Most of you probably remember that Luis was voted the Nation's Most Valuable High School Coach last year in an online contest sponsored by US Cellular, and maybe you remember all the crazy photo-shopped pictures of Luis and I that I posted throughout that contest. Well, as awesome and Luis is as a human being, there is an amazing woman by his side who loves and supports him, and makes him the man he is...his beautiful wife, Angela... without whom, Luis would be but a mere mortal...

Angela is an amazing person with a pure heart of gold. Anyone who knows her knows that. Unfortunately, a few months ago, Angela developed a very severe, extremely painful neurological disorder which has had her doctors completely stumped. Recent tests have come back indicating that she has developed a condition with significant nerve damage which has involved her autonomic nervous system, with an unknown origin. She is in constant excruciating pain which at times makes her feel like she is being burned alive. She has very little strength and energy anymore. It breaks my heart to see her suffer like this. Anyone who knows her knows that of all people in the world, she does not deserve this.

Angela has been out of work as a Physical Therapist since August due to this condition. As you can imagine with her medical bills mounting, this has had a seriously significant financial impact on their household. On top of that, Angela has recently been informed by her employer that she only has 30 more days to return to work or she will be terminated. Unfortunately, this may not be a very realistic timeline for her return to work.

As someone who has been through the devastation of financial ruin due to my own daughter's medical needs, I feel extremely compelled to help my friends who now face the same challenges my wife and I experienced a few years ago. It cost us everything we had and I don't want to see that happen to Angela and Luis. They, of all people, don't deserve that.  They are two of the biggest contributors to their/our community, they are both military veterans, they are outstanding parents to two incredible young men, and they are two genuinely nice people who would, and have given the shirts off their backs to anyone who needs them.

Having said all that, it is now time for us to do the right thing and give back where it is needed and very much deserved.  Angela and Luis would never ask for it but they NEED our help. Take it from someone who has been there, I’m sure by now that their resources are pretty much exhausted and it's nowhere they deserve to be. I have set a goal of raising $5,000 to help get them back on track but based on my own experience with my daughter's neurologic injury I honestly believe they will need much, much more than that.

I ask you to please give what you can, when you can. Even if you don't know Angela and Luis please believe me that they are the nicest, most deserving people you could ever hope to meet. They need our help now. A lot of you followed my Facebook posts last year and voted for Luis's national award and as awesome as that was, in reality that's just a trophy on a wall. What I'm asking for now is something a lot more important, please help Angela and her family, who give so much of themselves to others every day, at least keep  their heads above water as Angela continues to fight for her health.

Sincerely,

Chris (Coach O’Connell)
