Hi, my name is Major Andy McGuffie and I have served in the British Army for 38 years. I have been fortunate enough to travel the world and visit some amazing places. One of my life ambitions is to make it to Everest Basecamp, so I have teamed up with some friends and we have booked ourselves onto an expedition in Mar 26. This is such a life affirming event and I thought I would do it to raise much needed funds for a local community interest company that supports veterans in my community. Supporting a trek to Everest basecamp is more than an adventure, it's a powerful statement of solidarity with those who have served. The challenge reflects the resilience and determination that define our military veterans, and every step taken, helps raise vital funds for a community interest company dedicated to their wellbeing. These funds enable life-changing programs that tackle isolation, mental health challenges and transition to civilian life, ensuring veterans receive the support they deserve.
I have seen many colleagues and comrades leave the military and have their health decline due to a lack of peer support and receiving incorrect advice after leaving the military. Having settled into a local community in the South Wales valleys we have recognised the need to support local veterans in our area. Caerphilly Veterans' Support Hub (CVSH) is a community group for veterans and their families. They provide critical support to our veteran community, which range from advice on housing, benefits, war pensions, legal info, employment and most importantly mental health support. CVSH provide weekly catch- ups, so veterans dont ever need to feel alone and provide free day trips and events. By supporting this expedition, you are not only contributing to an unforgettable journey but also investing in hope, recovery and a stronger future for those that have sacrificed so much for our freedom.
