Hi my name is Andy and in February 2025 not a mere week after my 43rd birthday, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's. As you can imagine it was a tough knock to take for everyone in my family, but with the support of my wife, kids and immediate family, it's something I've learned to accept, live with and embrace on the rare occasion. It's my new best friend and a life long companion.
I was told that exercise is the key to fighting back, so I joined a gym and started Yoga. Since that I've achieved so much in terms of my balance,
co-ordination and general well being. So it was on to the next challenge. I decided I'd climb a mountain, in fact I'd decided to climb 7 of them.
So this year I'm climbing Ireland's 7 Summits. Seven climbs in 7 months, starting in March and ending with the final climb in September. This will take me to counties Kerry, Down, Galway, Wicklow, Cork, Waterford and Donegal.
I've also decided to do this as a fundraiser for the Parkinson's Support Fermanagh. They are a local charity who support people and their families living with Parkinson's. So if you wish to donate towards my challenge, please do and if unable to donate then I'm more than grateful for it just to be shared.
There is a cost to these climbs, booking fees, equipment, accommodation and travel expenses. These costs and any other costs incurred over the period of the 7 climbs will be paid for by myself, so that 100% of monies donated will be for Parkinson's Support Fermanagh.
So why am I doing this. Parkinson's doesn't rule my life, I do and I want others to know that just because you have Parkinson's it doesn't have you.
Parkinson's doesn't challenge me, I challenge it!!!
