Andrew Overton on his road to recovery

Andrew Overton 36, was diagnosed with sepsis on Friday 24th March. He was admitted to the critical care unit in The Royal Liverpool hospital with what started as a vomiting bug. No fluids or medication seemed to help improve his condition, Instead he went downhill and was treated for sepsis. We are still unsure of what infection has caused the sepsis. On Saturday morning he was put into an induced coma for 24 hours which turned out to be full life support for 15 days as his body went into septic shock and started to shut down all his organs. He was put on to kidney dialysis which was a risk as his kidneys and all other organs had failed and his body depended on this working within 15 mins for a chance of survival. Family and friends stayed in the ICU family room for 4 days as they had been prepared for the worst. Not even the doctors and nurses could believe he had pulled through. Andy is now awake and stable and been told so many times he is a miracle as it was one of the worst cases they had worked with. Unfortunately he has had to have both legs amputated below the knee and he is still waiting on the outcome of his hands as they have also been affected by septic shock. Andy is the life and soul of the party, always cracking jokes and a hard working bricklayer who started up his own business through Covid. He is a devoted daddy to Frankie 7, Indi-Rae 4, Teddy who was stillborn and paisley 2. After a rocky few years, Andy and his partner Leanne decided to make a fresh start and move to their dream home this June. As you can imagine their lives have been once again turned upside down. His children still don’t know about Andy’s condition and believe he is just in hospital needing medicine. His life will never be the same again and we would like to raise as much as possible to help towards his recovery, prosthetics etc.
