Hi, my name is Josh and I’m fundraising for my mum Andrea Okeeffe.
On Tuesday 6th September my family and I had the shock of our lives as my mum suffered a random seizure out of nowhere.
After the ambulance arrived they managed to stabilize her breathing. But she was unresponsive for over two hours in the hospital. By gods grace she managed to wake up and is now stable.
After a few days in the hospital last week we had finally the MRI results back. A mass was discovered in her brain which they identified as a rare form of brain cancer called Glioblastoma (grade 4).
This is the most agressive brain cancer one can get. So they have proposed surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible but they can’t remove it all as it is embedded within her brain. They said this will hopefully give us more time. They will conduct Chemo radiotherapy after her recovery.
Our lives have been placed in turmoil ever since this diagnosis. I have been searching relentlessly for treatment options in the UK but there is limited options.
Optune is a potential treatment which can cost as much as £17000 a month.
Optune is a wearable, portable, FDA-approved treatment for glioblastoma (GBM) that works by creating Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields), which are electric fields that disrupt cancer cell division.
My mum is 52 and is a full time carer for my younger brother who has Autism. She is fighting for her family right now and is happy for me to reach out to anyone who would like to support. She has agreed to the surgery which will be in less than a weeks time.
Any support would be much appreciated for our family.
Thanks all x
