Anathoth Community Stories
With an interest in story collecting, farming, and community, I am hoping to facilitate the project "Anathoth Community Stories" during the Summer of 2015.
Anathoth Community Garden and Farm, located in Cedar Grove, NC, offers youth and young adult internship programs and a sliding-scale CSA. The garden was first established in 2005 with land given as in response to a murder in the community, created with the hope of cultivating peace. Anathoth remains a space for people to connect with their neighbors and the land in the spirit of reconcilation.
I have volunteered at Anathoth and am interested in collaborating with Anathoth interns and participants to document stories about the garden community.
Through this project, I plan to:
Orient interns and community members in story collecting/oral history.
Connect interns with community members.
Facilitate interviews of community members by interns.
Edit audio recordings to be accessible on Anathoth website.
This project has potential to benefit all people involved. Interns will benefit by connecting with each other, building relationships with the wider community, developing skills in oral history, and deepening understanding of Anathoth’s purpose. Community Members will benefit by connecting with interns and having a space for their stories to be heard and documented. Anathoth will benefit from the spirit of community building among participants as well as the documentation of stories that can be used in future trainings, workshops, and fundraisers. As the coordinator, I will benefit by the opportunity to practice oral history work and the joy of seeing stories shared.
The project will take place over the course of eight weeks. I am seeking funds to compensate for my time (about ten hours per week), as well as other expenses with training materials, transportation, and use of personal equipment.
Thank you so much for your consideration of this project and your kind support!
