An orchestra for Singsoc!
Donation protected
At least once in every 3 years, Sheffield University Singers' Society aims to give it's members the opportunity to perform a large scale choral work with an orchestra and professional soloists.
On Saturday 3rd May, 2025, St.Marie's Cathedral in Sheffield will be filled with the sound of Singsoc Chorus performing arguably the greatest and most popular of choral works: Handel's Messiah. We will be accompanied by The West Riding Ensemble and joined by 4 local professional soloists.
This opportunity is an important part of Singsoc's work but not a cheap one! Many choirs charge high membership fees, and this pays for large events, but as a student society we try to keep day-to-day costs down for our members.
At Musicians Union minimum rates the orchestra cost for this event would be in the region of £2700. We're extremely lucky that our local professional chamber ensemble is committed to promoting performance opportunities for young musicians (like Singsoc), and are able to bring that cost down for us. But there's still a lot of money to find.
We're asking for your help. We will:
- Seek all possible funding from Sheffield University Students' Union.
- Use reserves built up over this academic year and previous years through careful planning.
- Run fundraising events in rehearsals.
We'd love you to:
- Make a donation here to help us meet our target.
- Get in touch if you would like to discuss sponsoring either the whole concert or an element of it.
- Buy a ticket to see the performance (information to follow).
Thank you - your donation is giving students at the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University a fantastic opportunity to perform one of classical choral music's most iconic works in one of Sheffield's most beautiful spaces.
