WANT- ‘An Eggcellent Adventure’ children’s book gift
WHY; My son’s 11th birthday early February 2019 was a gift despite him being in hospital recently diagnosed with a rare incurable autoimmune disease. At that time I was like any other parent in a kid’s ward wearing a brave face on the outside whilst screaming on the inside, not wanting to face any concept of my child’s mortality.
There is no way to deal with those sorts of thoughts or have any acceptance around the idea ‘my kid might die’. WTF! As he was given a gift in the hospital for his birthday by the fabulous staff of a book, I was deeply touched.
Only later was the seed planted for this book.
After his release I received or was inspired to write him a poem addressing that concept of death and it came as the story of Humpty- if the truth had been told in that fable of old. My son loved it so much, so I shared in on FB and then another former cop (did I not mention I too was one?) sent me an illustration for my son that is now the cover for this book. We secretly conspired together on the full story and the artwork to ‘Crack the case of Humpty” and deliver it in its full glory by Easter to Dane. (Seemed perfect timing for ‘An Eggcellent Adventure’ book at Easter as a gift- less calories than chocolate especially for a kid already ‘chock ablock’ full of steroids and its effects.)
After reading it and being suitably impressed by Mum’s efforts I was More impressed as in his own words,
Dane said, “Nothing’s really that bad, is it Mum!
This would be wonderful for everyone.”
And so the dream was born- not just to have the book published (as I’ve had more than a few) but to have it created as ‘The Gift” it’s always been intended to be. That’s where I need YOU. It’s been a collaborative effort and it’s ready to go to print. To get it printed and then donated is a staged process starting in Queensland where we live and then expanding to the other states.
Dane is involved in this as the gift giver to give back by sharing his gift with others. For those that know him personally- he is “Delightful Dane’.
As he has just been accepted into a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Excellence program for 2020 in starting Year 7 at High School it has an incentive for year 10 STEM students to go to NASA space camp, as such this GofundMe is also my strategy as a single Mum to start putting away the money he needs to realise that dream. As I don’t accept the ‘incurable’ label of the disease diagnosis, to me, It simply means don’t know and there is a lot we don’t know. What we do know is that where there is a dream- there’s hope- and where there’s hope- there’s every chance of fulfilling that hope and often in surprising ways.
Dane's active involvement keeps him engaged in what's light, bright and better than before- what every parent wants for their child whether they have moments, months or many many years.
I hope you will join me in the meantime to help fund this dream for Dane to gift to other children here and around the world. Its also for their parents to help shine a little light in their darkest moments- in ’An Eggcellent Adventure.’

As it's not printed yet there are no copies available for purchase however once it is I will be happy to gift donors their own signed copy - just pay for postage.
