My 83-year-old mother has worked hard her entire life and has managed to remain independent in her own home since my father passed away in 2012. Living on a single Social Security check, she has carefully made it work for many years. Unfortunately, rising living costs and increasing medical expenses have finally caught up with her this past year.

She owns her mobile home outright, but the annual land lease payment is $6,200, due in April 2026. She is currently about $5,000 short of being able to cover this payment. Without help, she faces the very real possibility of losing the home she has lived in since 2008.

My mom is mentally sharp, physically capable, and deeply values her independence. Her only wish is to remain in the home she loves. She has no close family nearby, and even the most modest alternative housing would cost far more than her annual lease, creating a serious financial hardship.

My parents always lived modestly. My father worked as a carpenter, and my mother worked for the phone company. They never asked for much, and my mom has done everything she can to stand on her own. She isn’t looking for long-term assistance—just a little help this year to stay in her home and maintain the independence she has worked so hard to preserve.
