Hi it’s Amy,
Most people who know me know I have a few medical conditions that limit me physically. I suffer with chronic asthma, ME and FND (along with other ailments) means I have reduced use and movement on my right side. But with the right medication, specialists and the best family around me, I constantly find ways to push myself and to fight through my disabilities.
In July when finishing school for the summer I was concerned that I wouldn’t have a routine for several weeks and my body would be negatively impacted by this (from working with my specialists they have taught me that routine and pacing is key). So I decided to try swimming and hydrotherapy. And yes those of you who know me would know that I used to love swimming and did so at squad level when I was young. Well, I have fallen back in love with it. In the water I can move all of my body (even if I do swim lengths with just my arms or with my legs to the side of me instead of behind me). I can move without having to rely on my walker or a wheelchair. And the water and heat help ease my chronic pain.
So….. that being said I have decided to take on my biggest challenge yet, to push myself physically and mentally to see what I can achieve and say proudly that “my disability won’t hold me back, it won’t define me it will help me see the world differently and make me a better person for it”.
I was unsure what charity to support in doing my challenge until I heard that Children In Need are asking people to take on their own challenges this year. So my challenge will be in aid of Children In Need. Please dig deep as this is a massive challenge that is going to push me mentally and physically but will be so worth it as it will be for such a good cause.
My challenge will be to swim 25KM during the month of October.
Thank you for your kindness and support!
love Amy xx
