Amy & Jason are Adopting a Baby! Takes a village!

My name is Nancy Hoffman, and Amy and Jason are dear friends of myself and my husband, Andy. We have been there for them through their fertility struggles, shed tears and held hands around the time of Amy’s miscarriage, and we are overjoyed to help them in this new chapter.

Before we get there, it’s important that you know Jason’s and Amy’s story…

Jason and Amy first encountered each other in the small town of Salida, Colorado in 1987. Amy was a freshman in high school, and Jason was a senior. Amy had a “cry-yourself-to-sleep” first crush on Jason, who, as Amy likes to lovingly chide him, “didn’t know she existed.”  Over time, she forgot about him, but she never completely forgot him, and found herself always drawn to boys with curly hair, like her first crush had.

Jason left Salida to attend film school and subsequently become a filmmaker, and married his first wife, with whom he raised two amazing individuals, Katie and Erin. Amy went on to her life adventures, including travel and grad school. Although she was engaged twice, she eventually ended up breaking it off both times, because she could feel deep in her heart that it wasn’t quite right.

Years later (MANY years later!), Amy heard a ping on her phone. It was Jason, messaging her on Facebook to ask for help in how to look for a therapist for his kiddos. He and his wife had decided to split (amicably), and wanted to support their daughters as best they could. Amy and Jason set up a time to talk by phone. The rest, as they say… is history. From the moment they spoke, there was laughter, connection, and something stirred in both of them. He was in the Pacific Northwest, and she was in Colorado, but they made a plan to visit. Friends and family cautioned them to not put too much weight on meeting until they had met in person, but, once they did, it was instantly clear that they were meant to be. The longing in their hearts had been filled.

While there love story is a magical one, unfortunately, they went through years of heartbreak, including such disappointments as fertility struggles and miscarriage. Amy’s dad and stepmom held her and Jason‘s hand in the emergency room as they heard the news that they already knew, confirmed, that the pregnancy would not come to fruition. They wept together, and Jason and Amy became even more resolute in their desire to have a child.

This brings us to the present… while their hearts are filled with the joy of Jason‘s daughters and each other, they are ready to have a kiddo of their own.

If you know Amy, you know that she has “mothered,” literally, thousands of kids over the last two (plus) decades, through therapy and her social-emotional skills groups. She has endless patience and love for her uniquely-wired kiddos, and when asked about it, she will joke that she wishes that that patience extended to the kitchen (fortunately for her, Jase is a wonderful chef and loves to cook). They were exploring adoption options when Covid hit, and they put things on hold. Now that things seem to be a bit more stabilized, they have decided that they would love to provide all the support and love a kiddo might need, whose heart is destined for their hearts.

This is where our support comes in. It takes a village, as they say, but adoption is expensive, and that is a bit of a barrier at this time (it can cost upwards of $40,000, depending on what route you go). As their friend, I recommended this route, and they  allowed me to spearhead this effort. We have much love for Amy and Jason and believe that they will enrich this world by parenting their little one. Please join us in supporting them. Any effort, seemingly large or small, is LARGE, and is beyond appreciated. Thank you so much for your support in their family endeavor. Let’s help Amy and Jason get connected with their child that is out there waiting for them. ❤️
