Habari everyone!

First and foremost, thank you for visiting our page! The Amri Children's Care Center Project is a charity project established by Shane Zeng, Jinary Dunmore and Marjorie Smith. Marjorie is a student from Kings College London currently undertaking a Biomedical Sciences degree. Jinary is in the process of obtaining a B.S in Public Health with a concentration in Medical Anthropology and the Natural Sciences. Shane is a Finance graduate student from Seton Hall University in New Jersey. Last summer, we worked together with the organization International Volunteer HQ- we spent a the summer volunteering abroad in rural Kenya. Shane was teaching Math, and Physical Education at Amri Children's Care Center, whereas Marjorie and Jinary accompanied community outreach workers and assisted with HIV testing and later on volunteered at Kikuyu Hospital in Surgery and Obstetrics. We formed an instant bond and became good friends. The daily experiences we encountered made us aware of the different community necessities. After returning from Kenya, we started thinking of establishing a project to help the less fortunate. Thus began our strategy to start fundraising/supplying resources to local schools, orphanages and medical facilities. We decided to begin with Amri Primary School and then extend this project to financially assist individuals afflicted with HIV/AIDS, the education system in Kenya, and families in dire need of fundamental necessities. Our intention is to make a tremendous difference in Kenya and hopefully around the world.

Amri Children's Care Center is located in the middle of a highly impoverished village in rural Kikuyu, which is about one-hour walking distance from Kikuyu Central Province, Kenya. The school was founded by Pastor Joel in 2004 after returning from a nearby slum called "Shauri. There he encouraged all the kids, who were from underprivileged, working class families. They were incapable of paying the standard school tuition fees; which is equivalent to $20 USD a month. Most of the students are currently unable to pay tuition fees right now. Therefore the school feeds and teaches them for free. Fortunately, the school receives limited sponsorship from warm-hearted people around but that is far from enough. These children require an education, so they can change their life circumstances. We are passionate about helping them, and hope that you all can become part of the solution.

Since there are around 180 students at Amri Children's Care Center, every improvement made to it will be costly. As a result, we want to start by supplying the study materials and see how much we can raise. In the future, we may extend our project to begin assisting with the food supply and infrastructure. Study materials include pencils, primers/textbooks, exercise books, erasers etc. In order to make every penny meaningful, we will try our best to buy all the supplies online and follow the websites' delivery policy. In general, each book will cost around KSH 400- 500, which is about $5. So if you can save a cup of coffee from Starbucks, the money can be used towards a meaningful cause - purchasing a book for the school.
