Amputee Mental Health and Awareness

Hey everyone! Thanks for visiting my GoFundMe and listening to my story!

Just last year, I was involved in a very severe accident that unfortunately left me with an above-knee amputation! I must admit, even just putting these words on paper still hurts a lot. The accident had left me mortified and completely turned my entire world around. Everything I knew and loved was instantly shattered, I lost my hope, my dreams, and myself in that accident. I woke up without a limb and had no idea what happened, completely shocked, confused, and petrified. I kept praying on repeat to whoever would listen to please make this nightmare stop! I didn't want to keep going and just hoped it would all end. I faced the darkest of times, moments, and thoughts. Nothing would be the same for me again. I went from being the most active, independent, and on-the-go person to completely losing my entire life in moments. I spent night after night alone and filled with indescribable sorrow and I couldn’t bring myself to stop crying even for a minute. The hospital/rehab/recovery all of it was filled with sadness. I couldn’t bring myself to even see family/friends. When I got home from rehab, I was on a mechanical leg, using crutches, and falling nearly daily. The home that was once my haven became the hell I couldn’t handle. I lost both of my jobs and was drowning in debt. I couldn’t walk, drive, or do anything for myself. The feeling of endless shame and fear embodied my whole being. I had to fight to find the will to continue and fortunately I found that hope through writing.

It's been a little over a year and now I’m ready to share my journey and recovery to help others. In the past 14 months, I managed to find the strength to stand up and speak up! I now write for a magazine that focuses on connecting those with amputation and disabilities. I hope to share my journey and recovery with as many people as possible, but we all need help. These prosthetics can range up to $100,000 and they only last a few years. For every $1000 I raise I will donate to various charities that focus on children with disabilities. My heart goes out to the families with little children with disabilities. I don’t know how parents manage these costs including doctors/prosthesis visits.

Today I’m asking for a small contribution to help a bigger cause! I thank you again for your donation and know every dollar goes a long way!

It's not how you fall, it's how you get up!
