Obituary of AMOS TUMWESIGYE
Amos Tumwesigye passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Imelda, his brother, James Habyarimana, and many dear friends from his work place, from his church, from Uganda and from the hospitals that cared for him
During his 5 year battle with multiple myeloma. He is predeceased by his father and 6 brothers.
Amos was born in Uganda, Kabale, Kitooma on May 16, 1964. He grew up in a family of 8 boys in that remote Ugandan village. Amos loved the daily labor in the fields, whenever he wasn’t in school.
After completing high school, he obtained a 2-year degree in accountancy. While working in Kampala, he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, later serving in the Kenya mission, and becoming the first church missionary from Uganda.
Amos came to the United States in 1996 where he attended the University of Utah. After getting financially settled he made annual visits to his home in Uganda.
In 2004 he married Imelda, but the process of immigration was not kind to them. Amos continued his annual visits home while Imelda continued to apply and re-apply for a U.S. visa. After 12 years she got the visa, allowing them to live together here since 2017.
Amos’ body will be transported to Uganda, where, in accordance with his wishes, he will be buried beside his father in a family plot in the village where he grew up.
There will be a viewing on Saturday, Aug 8 from 10:30 to 11:30 at the LDS chapel at 1883 South West Temple. Due to COVID, masks and social distancing will be required.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug 8 at 1pm. Due to COVID, funeral attendance will be very limited and thus BY INVITATION ONLY.
