Amira's Apert Angels: Supporting a Special Family
Donation protected
Amira's arrival in August 2023 brought her family into a world of challenges as they embrace parenting a child with Apert Syndrome. This rare condition, affecting up to 1 in 100,000 births, is caused by a small genetic alteration that leaves its mark on Amira's delicate frame. Her fingers and toes are merged together; her skull is underdeveloped and fused prematurely. This presents ongoing obstacles to her growth and well-being.
Since her first breath, Amira's life has been a testament to resilience and courage. The tense days in the NICU to the countless appointments at Sydney Children's Hospital, her family have been with her, navigating the complexities of her condition.
In just eight months, their journey has been a whirlwind of medical procedures and milestones. Three brain surgeries, two of them urgent, have tested both Amira's strength and theirs. As they face the road ahead, with major reconstructions and further surgeries on the horizon, they know the challenges are far from over. By the age of 2, Amira is expected to have undergone 10 planned surgical interventions.
As they navigate this journey, every gesture of support becomes a lifeline. Generosity, no matter how small, can make a world of difference for Amira and her family. Together, they can face the challenges ahead with strength and hope. Thank you for being a part of their story and for standing with them in this journey of love, resilience, dignity and faith.
The funds raised go directly to the family to help them with medical costs, accommodation during Amira's surgeries and the ongoing cost of living in this tough economy.
