My name is Amelia Weiss, and I am currently working toward earning the rank of Eagle Scout, something I’ve been dedicated to for several years. Along the way, I’ve completed countless merit badges, spent nights camping under the stars, and hiked many miles with my troop. Scouting has taught me leadership, service, and a deep respect for the outdoors—values that all come together in my Eagle Scout Service Project, the final step toward this goal.
For my project, I am partnering with Fortman Marina in Alameda to improve oil spill preparedness and protect our local waters. Growing up, I’ve spent a lot of time sailing in the Bay, and I’ve seen firsthand how even small spills can spread quickly, leaving a harmful impact on marine life, seabirds, and the environment I love. That’s why my project focuses on installing oil spill response kit storage units at the marina, making it easier for boaters and staff to respond immediately if a spill happens.
These kits will provide the tools needed to stop oil and fuel from reaching the water, helping preserve the Bay for wildlife and for future generations to enjoy. By making response materials more accessible, I hope my project will make a real difference in protecting the place I’ve always considered home on the water.
I am raising funds to cover the cost of materials, construction, and supplies for the storage units and kits. Any support you give will go directly toward equipping our community to respond quickly to spills and keep our waterways safe and clean. Together, we can protect the Bay for everyone who depends on it—people and wildlife alike.
