Hi, my name is a Sarah and I have been working closely with community in Amboseli Kenya. We've been establishing sustainable food systems that will help combat food insecurity while building healthy soils, growing more nutritious food, storing more carbon and ultimately helping combat climate change through regenerative agriculture.
Using permaculture principles, I have been mentoring locals in developing their own village community gardens. The project has been gaining traction and I have been asked to return to Amboseli to continue.
We're working with a Maasai community (typically nomadic pastoralists) excited to grow their own food and become more independent. They have a partially complete borehole system that would benefit immensely from some infrastructural additions. Storage tanks, support structures, a solar powered pump and extensive elephant fencing would allow them to accomplish this goal. This phase of the borehole improvement requires upwards of $25,000 AUD to complete but every little bit is helpful.
Once complete, we plan to build organic gardens within the fence boundary that would provide food for the families living in the two adjacent villages and serve as a demonstration garden for the surrounding areas. With a high level of community engagement and interest already, the positive change from this garden will hopefully spread "over the fence" to other communities as they learn from each other.
Please help me build sustainable food systems so we can start building better health for people and the planet.
