Alyssa's Tahoe Swim for AFSP

On July 15th, I will attempt to swim solo across Lake Tahoe's width. 12 miles with no wetsuit, and an incredible support & safety boat crew alongside me.
Training has been a moving journey for me, especially during a difficult year of change and uncertainty. The water has tested me, it has provided me stability and space, and it has brought me huge bursts of joy. Amongst the challenge, it has been incredibly rewarding.
With that said, I am keen on the fact that there are many others who have not found the same outlet.
As I navigate 12 miles across Tahoe, I'm asking that my network take a moment to help an organization that supports the wellbeing of the people in our communities. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. They focus on four core strategies: funding scientific research, educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention, advocating for public policies in mental health and suicide prevention, and supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide.
With the start of COVID-19, the national mental health hotline had an 891% increase in callers.
