Almo Academy

Hi everyone,

Our names are Ellie and Daisy; we are currently volunteering in Arusha, Tanzania at Almo Academy. The school caters for around 55 children ageing from 8months to 6 years old. We have been lucky enough to work with these children for 3 weeks and have 7-9 weeks left. They are some of the most hardworking, intelligent and resilient children we have ever met. The school was founded in 2015 by Madam Anna and her husband and together they have built a loving and empowering environment for the kids to learn. However, their learning conditions are extremely tough. Despite these challenges, the children arrive with smiles, energy and a true love of learning.

Students share pencils (usually around 5 pencils per 15 students) and have one rubber and one sharpener per classroom. Along with not having enough tables and chairs for all students to learn comfortably. Teachers are also lacking the essentials they need to aid the children for example: chalk, markers and additional stationary. This is one of the areas we are wanting to help to enable each child to have their own equipment to give them the opportunity to enhance their learning.

Another area the donations will go towards is the classrooms as they are in poor conditions such as:

- inadequate roofs

- smashed windows

- dirt floors

- broken furniture

The cost for 4 bags of cement in Arusha is around £15 therefore, by raising enough money renovations can be started on these areas immediately.

If the goals are reached, we would further like to support a child’s family by helping pay a months rent which costs around £10 a month and paying a family of fours food for a month which costs around £25. Showing how far a small donation can go.

All donations will go directly to Almo, 100% of your support will reach the school. Whether the donation is large or small, your contribution will help transform the daily life for these children.
