Almira's Journey: Hope Against the Odds
Donation protected
Almira Zahir was born 1 pound 7 ounces, January 15th 2025. 17 weeks before her May due date. As a 23 week nano preemie, Almira has had to rely on much support to help her grow. Her biggest hurdle has been developing her lungs. Almira is now a 5 pound 35 weeks adjusted cutie! Though, due to her dependence on a ventilator, she has developed BPD (broncho pulmonary dysplasia -a preemie related lung disease), is currently battling her fourth pneumonia, and has now been diagnosed with severe pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs).
On April 3rd, Almira went into a pulmonary hypertension crisis (one step below a code blue) Her lungs were not able to pull in more than 70% oxygen for over 12 hours. The doctors told the family there was one more medication they could try before it was time for her patents to hold Almira one last time. By God's grace, when her mommy picked up Almira, a miracle occured. Her oxygen levels raised into the 90s and she began to heal.
As of now, the doctors are still unsure if Almira will make it past the week. But her parents and care team have witnessed her strength and the power of God.
Almira's parents are forever greatful for every prayer chain her name has been mentioned in, and are thankful for any help, even if just through prayer.
Her parents have spent everyday at the hospital, 3 hours away from home. They are very invested in Almira's care and are present for every doctor round and touch time.
The Zahir family appreciates all the help, love, and prayer they receive.
