Ally's Trip to Tanzania with Humanity for Children

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

I go to Westminster College, and my Global Public Health professor Dr. Gowin invited me to join her, a few other students, some alumni, and some physicians on their trip to Tanzania with Humanity for Children!

It's $3,500 for the trip, and we'll be working on
a malnutrition initiative for maternal child health and education on adolescent health, including delivering menstrual kits to girls to help them stay in school.
We are working in 5 communities with a mostly indigenous population: the Maasai. They have limited access to health care, safe water, electricity, and food.

I believe we as humans live in an interconnected web of life, but as an American, I tend to forget what that really means. Not everyone has the same resources—or luxuries—that I do. People live completely different lifestyles and speak other languages and eat other foods than I do. People all around the world live without access to electricity, running water, and medicine. It’s easy to travel and learn more about the world when you do so with luxuries all around you, but what about the hard truths we’d rather not see, think about, or live? And what about the people who live those truths every day?

I’m passionate about this trip because it’s an opportunity for me to learn more about the world around me and make a positive impact while doing so, but it’s also important to me as someone who questions the world around me—how does it work? Why does it work that way? What can we change for the better? How can we work together to make that change happen? This is a trip where I will be totally out of my comfort zone and in completely unfamiliar surroundings, and I think this is a crucial part of being a global citizen.

I’m putting in $1,000 of my own money for the trip, and any funds gathered from this gofundme will contribute to my travel and food expenses, and I appreciate anything you’re willing to donate!
