Since October 2023, Sarabeth and I have been funding the school payments for two children in Ghana, Winfrey and Ryan. I met their father, Foli, while travelling in Ghana in 2013. He works hard as a ranger, protecting wildlife and people in the Shai hills reserve outside of Accra. The local school is not affordable on his salary (<$100 a month) for one child, let alone two. In 2023, his wife, Patience, had been forced to return with the kids to the other side of the country to attend a school in her parents home village, splitting the family.

With our support, the family has remained together ever since. We have also covered various hospital bills, financed the end of Foli's higher education and set up Patience with a freezer to allow her to run a grocery outlet for the local community.

However, now that Ryan is old enough to go to school, and Sarabeth and I are currently in our own tight financial situation, it is trickier to commit to covering the school costs of Winfrey and Ryan in the way we had hoped.

That is why I am reaching out to you as our wider community, to see if anyone is interested in assisting with this excellent cause. Giving directly to individuals is one of the most effective forms of charity, and there is rarely a better cause that investing in the education of children.

In total, it comes out to around $900 annually to send both children to full time elementary education. Not a huge amount by western standards, but significant enough that I am asking for help in sustaining the support going forward.

If you would like to donate to the cause, it would be hugely appreciate by Sarabeth and I, as well as by Foli, Patience, Winfrey and Ryan. If the funding goal is exceeded, all additional money will be used to support other elements of their life. In the past I have covered miscellaneous costs like electrical bills, hospital bills and freezer repairs, as well as providing items such as mosquito nets, work boots, mattresses and even shipping an old laptop. Foli is incredibly grateful, and always shares pictures and receipts of anything we have invested in.
