Help Us Honor Roger Casement — Irish LGBTQ+ Hero
Long before the world coined the term “human rights,” Irishman Roger Casement risked everything to expose the brutal atrocities committed against people in the Belgian Congo. In the early 1900s, he traveled deep into the heart of Africa and documented the horrific abuse, forced labor, and mass killings carried out under King Leopold II’s rule — a regime that left millions dead. Casement’s report shocked the world and helped ignite an international movement that saved countless African lives. He didn’t do it for fame or fortune. He did it because he believed that Black lives mattered — before anyone said it out loud. History hasn’t given him his due. It’s time we change that.
We’re raising funds to install a bronze plaque on San Francisco’s Rainbow Honor Walk to recognize Roger Casement — not just as a gay icon, but as a global human rights defender who used his voice to protect Black lives. Let’s give this truth-teller the honor he deserves.
