Allica Bank January Blues Walk for charity Andy's Man Club
In the 3rd week of January a team of 20 Allicans (Allica Bank colleagues) come rain, sun, winds or downpours will walk 18 miles through London to promote positive physical and mental health at statistically one of the toughest times of the year.
Starting near Euston station our colleagues will walk through areas including Hyde and Regents Park, Westminster and back to the Allica Bank London office raising money for Andy’s Man Club - Allica Bank's charity partner.
Our colleagues will start sunrise (if the sun even appears!) passing both Allica Bank and supplier's offices, offering the opportunity for others to join our colleagues on this walk for charity, to be able to participate in some way.
Why is Allica Bank walking 18 miles this time of year? We’ve all heard the phrase “January Blues”. The 3rd Monday in January is claimed to be the most depressing day of the year and has recently been labelled “Blue Monday”. Blue Monday is built on the fact that anxiety peaks at this point in the year, with reasons including broken New Years resolutions, financial worries, and general low mood.
Depression is googled every 2 seconds in the UK, and peaks in January. To counter this, Allica Bank would like this week of the year to be meaningful for some of our colleagues. The weather maybe grim, cold, and 18miles will take us from ‘sunrise to sundown’ (if it even appears!)....
That’s partly the point of doing something we may not want to do on a day when everything feels that little bit more difficult.
The plan
18 mile walk around central London to raise money and awareness for Andy’s Man Club and wider mental health and wellbeing during this difficult period.
The walk route will be pre organised, passing significant monuments, some of Allica's supplier’s offices, as well as some less crowded areas, the canal network and the Allica Bank London office.
The route will be shared with live locations throughout the walk.
Allica Bank hope to be joined by a representative of Andy’s Man Club, championing the importance of getting out, walking and talking, and supporting positive mental health.
We have some of our trained Mental Health first aiders joining us for the 18 miles.
If you don’t fancy meeting us for part of it, a donation would be just as welcomed.
We aim to raise £7,500 for Andysmanclub so we really need your support.
If you have read this far, please donate. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause.
