All 4 Joey Challenge

Hi everyone,

As some of you will know, in October 2022 I ran a 100km ultramarathon in 14 hours and raised just over £4,000 for my best friend’s little boy Joey, who suffers from MLD (Metachromatic Leukodystrophy), a rare progressive brain disorder in which there is no cure or eligible treatment available due to him being symptomatic.

So… I’m back with yet another crazy challenge which I am going to do for Joey’s 4th birthday, which is on the 27th February 2024, with a theme around the number 4. I will be running 44 kilometres wearing a 44lb weighted vest (approx. 20kg) to raise money for any equipment required to assist in daily activities and comfort for Joey. Unfortunately, such equipment can be very expensive and often requires custom production. I therefore want to set my goal for £4,000 and as agreed with Joey’s parents, any additional funds will be donated to MLD Support Association.

Whilst raising money is the main goal, raising awareness for this heartbreaking disease and campaigning for a change in newborn screening is also a high priority.

I intend to complete the run on Saturday 24th February 2024 and will provide updates along my training journey. Please share this fundraiser with friends, family, colleagues and let’s get people talking about MLD and raising some money for such an important cause.
