Please help! I am a single mom who is fighting to maintain custody of my child. I am going through the nightmare of being sued by an ex-boyfriend who is trying to gain physical and legal custody of my 8 year old daughter. This man is not the father of my child. We were never married. And he never adopted her. And yet he feels entitled to be her legal parent just because he was with us for several years.
My daughter's biological father and I are amicably divorced. We are friends and we co-parent together very well. Both of us are loving, caring parents who are perfectly capable of caring for our beloved daughter. We are in shock that an ex-boyfriend would do something like this to our family. And now he is forcing a legal case in the name of a brand new law in California called “third parent rights.” The distress this has caused me is immeasurable, and I do not have the financial resources to fight it without help.
This is potentially a landmark case for parents' constitutional rights. Our case poses grave dangers to the future rights of all parents and to their ability to raise their children as they see fit. Any ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend in the future could be able to sue for and win custody over our children. The stakes are extremely high and we must prevail in this historic case. Please consider contributing whatever you can - $25, $50, $100, $500, etc. Any amount will help defeat this dangerous precedent for families. Please share my story widely with whomever you can. We need to widen the network so that we can ensure that this does not happen to anyone else.
The money raised will be used for the legal fees to combat and defeat this attack on our parenting rights. I need to raise the money by October 1, 2017 for the lawyers' fees.
