Alia swims for Black Lives Matter

Hi I'm Alia Marriner. I'm 8 years old and I love to swim in the ocean. I like to climb a lot, but I'm mostly an underwater person. A lot of my friends are land people, but not me!  I have always heard about long distance swimmers and wanted to be like them, so I decided to swim to all the beaches in Laguna Beach.

When George Floyd died it changed a lot in my life. I couldn't stop thinking about what I could do to help Black Lives Matter. I'm going to dedicate this swim to Black Lives Matter, and raise as much money as I can.

Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (via Thousand Currents), and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

If you would like to cheer me on, I'll be starting at Crescent Bay at 9 am on Saturday, September 5. I'll be swimming south to each beach, so I hope to see you somewhere along the way. I hope to arrive at the tower of Victoria Beach on Sunday afternoon.

More information about Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (via Thousand Currents): Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. (BLM) is a home to Black folks and our global allies, as we demand a world where Black people are liberated. We support the lives of the Black queer and transgender communities, the disabled, those with records, women, and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives. BLM’s activities will primarily consist of the following: -Creating national and global campaigns. BLM will do this by creating global opportunities for mass-scale impact, as well as amplifying the activities of chapters. -Supporting the work of chapters as they represent BLM-Providing resources and key leadership in developing global regions.-Investing in Rapid Response Chapter Needs.-Black Lives Matter Arts+Culture. BLM’s Arts+Culture programs expand and explore this moment in art and culture that is reflective of the 1960s and 70s when the Civil Rights, Black Power, and Women’s Rights Movements and efforts to diversify art institutions dominated the discourse.Thousand Currents is the fiscal sponsor of Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation.
