Algha's Plantroom is an independent, femme-owned, queer-led event space in the heart of Fish Island, Hackney Wick. For the last two years it has existed as a living platform for experimentation, connection, and radical expression, from boundary-pushing art exhibitions and performance nights to euphoric club takeovers. Rooted in the creative pulse of East London, it’s a space where community forms, identities expand, and new worlds are rehearsed.
We need your help to keep her alive.
We’re currently facing the difficult period since opening. Rising rent, increased business rates, and a big wave of cancellations and drop-outs have left us in a fragile position. The costs of running a fully independent, community-focused space have never been higher, and without support, our ability to keep going will come to an end within the next 60 days.
This fundraiser is about building the foundations that will allow us to survive and grow. We're raising funds to invest in the equipment and resources that will reduce our reliance on expensive hire costs and make the space more resilient for the future by adding some essential improvements. This includes additional soundproofing and seating, DJ booth monitors, CDJs, and other elements needed to build and maintain the space ourselves. We’re also in the process of applying for a permanent license, which will allow us to operate more sustainably and plan further ahead. We’re also planning on working with a part time cultural programmer/booker to help us bring more visibility to the space and build an even stronger community-oriented calendar.
Every contribution goes directly into keeping this space open and functional, not just for us, but for the artists, communities, and nights that call it home.
We are hoping to raise £20,000 through this online fundraiser and our upcoming fundraising event on May 23rd. If you have ever danced here, shown work here, found your people here, or simply believe that spaces like this need to exist, please donate, share, and help us carry on.
