Alfies Penthouse

Hi my name is Lisa and I am Alfies mum. Alfie is 12tears old and is profoundly disabled. He requires 24hour care. We are fortunate to live in a home that was adapted for us 8years ago, Alfie had a through floor lift and a wet room upstairs. However he's outgrown these, his health has also deteriorated and as a single mum I can struggle to manage day to day tasks of navigating Alfies care and also being a mum to his 9yr old sister. We predominantly live upstairs as I need to be at hand to clear Alfies airway, re position and keep him safe.

However.....after a long 2 year battle I have been lucky enough to be given an extension so that Alfie can be downstairs, this will make not only my caring role easier but means we can be a family again, Alfie can access garden just from his bed if needed and I can care a little easier for both children, even just cooking a meal. The extension also has a bath, Alfie can no longer tolerate a shower due to pain from scoliosis and muscle spasms. A bath will benefit him hugely.

Although we are lucky and grateful to the local authority and housing association. This adaption comes with extra repairs to the home. I have to floor Alfies room and the kitchen. Along with decorating and making his room perfect, storage to keep all his medication, equipment etc in a way that means we can use his wheelchair easily in his room. Also due to lift coming out the lounge flooring needs replacing. Doors are being widened meaning alterations to furniture. Alfies sister will inherit Alfies old room, she's had to share with me as her room currently stores Alfies supplies, I will need replace her carpet as the lift will leave a large hole. I also want to make it perfect for her as being a young carer she gives up so much but always with a smile and a good heart.

We are just looking at getting a little bit of help to try to make our home what we always dreamt of.
