Hi, my name is Jack and I’m a proud dad of three.

I never thought I would find myself writing on a GoFundMe page, but life has taken an unexpected turn for my family. My little boy Alfie is living with major kidney failure.

Alfie is only young, yet he has already been through more than most of us could imagine. He recently underwent surgery to have a peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheter fitted. This tube sits inside his abdomen and connects to a dialysis machine that cleans his blood when his kidneys cannot. Sadly, Alfie had this operation once before and it led to serious infections. This time, the surgery has been successful, but the road ahead is still long and uncertain.

On top of this, Alfie also faces bladder problems. He has a vesicostomy, which means his bladder is on the outside of his stomach, as his kidney tubes are too twisted to allow urine to pass normally. This has caused him pain and difficulty since birth, but he continues to show incredible bravery.

Day-to-day life for our family is full of challenges. Alfie needs daily medication, constant monitoring, and strict control over his diet, as high levels of potassium, creatinine and urea in his body can be dangerous. Dialysis will keep him stable for now, but ultimately Alfie will need a kidney transplant – and likely more than one over the course of his life.

I still work full time, but with the many hospital stays, operations and the extra care Alfie requires, it has become incredibly difficult to balance everything. The financial strain, alongside the emotional one, has been huge.

What matters most to us is making precious memories as a family and giving Alfie the happiest childhood possible despite his condition. This page is not just to ask for donations, but also to raise awareness about what children like Alfie go through every day.
