My name is Alex M. White, and I am one of your elected Bernie Sanders delegates traveling to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this July to continue the political revolution by fighting for the strongest progressive agenda that any political party has ever seen. I am humbled by this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to serve my community and grateful for your generosity.
WHY FUNDRAISE
While there are no fees or dues required to become a delegate, there are more than $3k in costs associated with travel and accommodation for the national convention. The California Democratic Party does not furnish flights or hotels for the national convention nor does it provide financial assistance to offset the costs of attending. We are also required to stay at the Marriott Hotel Philadelphia Downtown, chosen by the Democratic National Convention Committee without consultation, for $689 a night.
ABOUT ME
My work as an activist, social documentary filmmaker, teacher, Peace Corps Volunteer, and field organizer has taught me how to create and maintain age-inclusive structures of support and mutual aid in social justice movements and communities.
My experiences as a Chamorro American, growing up in a working-class household with mixed-race parents, living in a remote Kazakhstani village with a Muslim family, graduating from college during the recent recession with the majority of my peers having student loan debt exceeding more than $50k - $100k, advocating for tenants' rights to combat the Bay Area housing crisis in the Superior Court of California, and fighting health insurance companies for my partner's lifesaving treatments after they were diagnosed with cancer; all of these experiences and more are why I would be honored to have your support and to represent you, the East Bay community, and all of our brothers & sisters across the country and the world in this political revolution at the Democratic National Convention.
