Album expense, preserving TJs legacy, Initiatives

Hey there, my name is Shad, and I have been working on a record for the past several years. Many of these songs have grown up with me and evolved over the past 10 years of my time here in my hometown of Boise. We initially recorded the material at my brother (the drummer) and me's family home back in 2019. Some of the material has changed, and many instruments and voices have been added. Some new songs/meditations have even been added, and others changed/removed, but I feel like I have finally reached a conclusion with whatever I felt deep down I have been trying to get out of me all this time.

As many of you know, we lost TJ to a fentanyl overdose last year. I almost gave up on this record and music entirely. However, with the help and support of this amazing community and family here in Boise, I was encouraged to press on... Some of these songs are about that process.

I have finally finished all of its recording, arrangement and production. It contains super important material to me, including my brother's drumming on every track. It's about growing up and seeing yourself and others change; addiction, recovery, loss, life and death. It's been brutal, but this album has been my only source of therapy through the process. I am worried I won't be able to afford to give it the proper send-off it needs. I started Mishap Records to invest in my community, specifically musicians and artists, and I've spent all the extra money I've had getting it off the ground and on my first home.

I'm not very good at asking for help, but it's something I'm learning to do. Maybe I got it from my parents, who didn't even want to ask for anything to help with the expense of putting Tanner in the ground. They're prideful, independent folks; what can I say? It's TJ's birthday today, and many of you asked how you could help me after he passed. I didn't know what to say or ask for at the time, but looking back, putting out this album feels like the most important thing for me to do right now to preserve his memory and legacy and begin to heal.

There are also many other projects with unreleased music of TJ's (we put a track out today, go check it out) and happenings over at Mishap Records. Any extra money will go towards those efforts. Also, we have a few other non-profit initiatives to help folks struggling with addiction and assist kids/grownups in getting involved in music. These include P.E.E.R. Wellness Center for Recovery, other overdose prevention programs like Project Red, and safe spaces for kids to get involved in music, including Boise Rock School, The Boise Hive and the upcoming Underdogs all-ages venue. I have links to those programs here:

Thank you, and have a blessed day!
