Introduction
For the past 54 years, the Alano Club has been changing lives. We have all been touched by addiction, whether a parent, child, neighbour or a co-worker. At the Alano Club, we have witnessed thousands of individuals walk through our doors, desperate and without hope, addicted to alcohol and drugs. There we find a safe, clean, supportive, and sober environment. There we discover the possibility of recovery and rebuilding relationships.
About the Alano Club
The Alano Club is a Not-For-Profit Organization. We are the place where many come after treatment for alcohol and drug dependency. We are the safe haven for those seeking recovery through a 12-step program. We currently hold nineteen meetings in our building every week. In addition, the Alano Club hosts a weekly Senior's Music and Dance Gathering, Memorials, Weddings, Comedy Nights, 24-Hour Christmas Open House and Dances.
The Alano Club is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to our membership, to accommodate many individuals and lifestyles. All activities at the club are conducted solely by volunteers.
Presently we have approximately 70,000 people come through our doors per year. Having a fully accessible Hall will allow so many more people with mobility issues to attend meetings and functions within the Alano Club. We are currently seeking financial support in our progressive endeavour to create an accessible hall for all who attend our meetings and other functions.
History
Since 1964, the Alano Club has existed at 200 Thornton Road North in Oshawa. It began in a donated building through the Durham Board of Education. In 1983 we purchased the building.
The Accessibility Project
This project will ensure accessibility and inclusivity for members, new members, and guests with physical disabilities and mobility issues to attend meetings, events, and social activities at the club. This is vital to our current and long-term success.
Thank you for your love, support and generous donations,
-Alano Club
**note the funds will be personally withdrawn by Michael Duffy (Campaign Organizer) and then transferred to the organization outside of GoFundMe.**
