Alana's Bat Mitzvah Project
Tax deductible
Hi!
My grandfather on my father's side (Zayde), Alan Bernstein, whom I'm named after, passed away from Amyloidosis before I was born. So, I never got to meet him, but I have been told about what an amazing person he was and how much he would have adored me. He was funny, friendly, and kind. He loved to scuba dive and spend time with his family. Because of this, as my Bat Mitzvah Project, I am raising money for Amyloidosis research in honor of my grandfather (Zayde), Alan Bernstein.
Amyloidosis is a rare disease that occurs when an abnormal protein, called amyloid, builds up in the organs and interferes with their normal function. There are several types, but my grandfather (Zayde) had primary systemic Amyloidosis, which is now referred to as AL Amyloidosis.
I am setting up this Go Fund Me page to raise money for the Amyloidosis Foundation, which serves patient needs by supporting research and providing annual grants for junior research scientists whose research targets the challenges in the field of amyloidosis. "Researchers, clinicians and partners in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries are working on the development of therapies that are changing the landscape and improving the outlook for patients." For more information on this incredible group, please check out their webpage at www.amyloidosis.org.
As a thank you for your donation, I am making pins to raise awareness for Amyloidosis, which I will send to all donors. I am hopeful that my friends and family will take a moment to learn more about this terrible disease and donate to raise money and awareness so that someday Amyloidosis will be cured.
Thank you so very much for supporting this cause that is very dear to my heart and I look forward to seeing you at my Bat Mitzvah.
Love,
Alana
