For the last two weeks I have been housing and providing for three former students of mine who, because of tragedy after tragedy, they found themselves homeless.
The oldest is 21. When his younger siblings were left without parents, he returned home from college and has been home trying to do what he can to help. He currently has a job and hopes that he can eventually return to college
The other two are seniors Alexis I. duPont High School. They are so very close to graduating. One will be going to trade school in the fall to get his degree in Landscape Construction and Management and the sister is off to serve our country by enlisting in the United States Air Force.
They are kind, polite, humble and positive young people. Life has not been kind, but they don’t allow it to get them down. They continue to look forward to their futures and do all they can to be remain united as family.
They have gone through a two week interview process to secure a home, together through the West End Life Lines program. We were elated at the news that they got accepted and could live together for the first time since 2013. However, we found out this morning that they each need to secure a $500 security deposit. Unsure how three homeless and parentless children can access that kind of money. I have told that we will find a way.
So I am asking for your help! If you can donate $1 to $500 you would be helping three amazing kids finally get a chance to call a place home.
