Aiding Our Parents' Courageous Cancer Battle

This is the one-two punch that no one saw coming. Most of you know my parents. My mother is one of those people who would do anything for anyone. The extent of her magnanimity towards others is too vast to extol here. Suffice it to say she’s never met a worthy cause to which she would not rise.

My father. Well. I would say he’s a “War Hero.” He is. But he’s a hero in every sense of the word. You can’t always depend on him to do the easy thing. You can always depend upon him to do the right and honorable thing.

Cutting to the chase. Both of them have been diagnosed with cancer and are undergoing treatment here in Columbia. It is our hope that the prognosis and outcome will be a favorable one and that the treatment available here will be successful.

We are all fully aware that there are many families out there who are suffering much worse and are in much more dire straits financially. People literally from across the country have said, “Just let us know what we can do.” Despite having very good insurance and having been financially frugal their entire lives… cancer is still an expensive journey. The costs aren’t just medical. They are operational and a whole bunch of other things whose words escape me at the moment.

So if you’d like to help my parents in some way… I know they would greatly appreciate it. If you have other causes which you hold dear, then they understand that as well.

Take it from someone who knows. Hearing your name in the same sentence as the word cancer will stop you dead in your tracks. As a family, we will get through this. If you’d like to contribute to the cost of their care, that will be greatly appreciated. Either way, know that we know that they are loved and held in great esteem.
