Introduction
My name is Aidan Mefford. I am 14 years old and was born in the United States but have been living in Hong Kong for the past 7 years where I began my Scouting journey with Boy Scouts of America. I started participating in the scouting program in 2nd grade as a Cub Scout in Hong Kong Pack 1 and earned my Arrow of Light, the highest honor in Cub Scouts. I then joined Hong Kong Troop 1 and have made it all the way to Life Scout. I have been working my way through all the requirement to become an Eagle Scout and am working on my Eagle Project.
My Eagle Project
For my project, I will be leading the construction of PVC pipe Dog beds for Hong Kong Homeless Dog Shelter. I have donated money to charity I have been given on my birthdays since I have lived in Hong Kong to HK Dog Rescue. I wanted a dog and thought I would get a rescue puppy. After much begging, I finally got a dog 3 years ago, but my family did not want to get a rescue dog due to safety concerns. I still kept supporting HK Dog Rescue and even chose to gather collections for them for my 6th grade service project. However, they do not allow actual service on site for the dogs unless you are over 18 years old.
I found out about HK Homeless Dog Shelter during Typhoon Mangkhut this past year in September 2018. I first saw them on Instagram posts and news about the Typhoon in Hong Kong and how they were taking in hundreds of dogs that needed rescuing from the the biggest storm to ever hit HK and knew I wanted to find a way to help.
While researching Eagle projects online, I found an article for a Boy Scout that had built dog beds for a shelter and thought this was a great idea.
I contacted the owner of HK Homeless Dog Shelter, Ms. Chan, because I saw in most of the photos the dogs were lying on the floor or blankets which is hard on the dogs joints and bones. Recently they had been donated a few wood pallets. They currently have over 300 dogs that they take care of at their shelter!
Ms. Chan contacted me back and thought it would be a wonderful idea for a project and donation. You can learn more about them here at their website.

They are very excited I have chosen them as the Beneficiary of this project and are looking forward to receiving all the new beds for their doggies!
I have been planning this project for many months and I am excited to kick it off for construction and delivery on May 10-12, 2019.
Why I need your Help
I need to purchase many supplies and materials to construct the beds as well as hire trucks for delivery of materials and of the completed beds. As part of my project, I am responsible to raise the money to purchase all these supplies and see this project through. The cost of all these supplies and rentals is about $1,500 US dollars (approx $12,000 Hong Kong dollars). Your funds and donations will make this project possible, improve the lives of the dogs at HK Homeless Dog Shelter, and help me and others grow as leaders and workers, and help me achieve my Eagle Scout rank. I hope you will consider donating.
My Promise
I promise that all funds will go directly to the completion of my Eagle Scout project and I promise to see this project through to its completion. In the event there are leftover funds, it will go directly to HK Homeless Dog Shelter.
