Dominican Rep Classroom Building

I am participating in Builders Beyond Borders (B3), a charity program that, for the past 25 years, has worked to build a better world.  In the past B3 has helped people in need in counties such as Brazil, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Peru and Honduras.  

I joined this amazing organization because I love working with young children and wanted to find a way to help people who do no have the things we have.

This February, I will be travelling to the Dominican Republic to a town called Batey Palmarejo.  The town is one of the marginalized Haitian-Dominican communities.  In partnership with a local organization, MUDHA, we will be be building new classrooms at the local school.  MUDHA is dedicated to the education and representation of the marginalized communities and started the program as the local children did not have access to the national school system.  The school we are helping to expand currently educates 165 children from Kindergarten through fourth grade.

As part of my commitment to the project, I am seeking to raise $3,200.  The money is used to pay for the materials, supplies and tools we will need to build the classrooms as well as funding our local travel expenses.

In addition to the construction of the classrooms, we will also be spending time with the children and adults in the batey.  I am really excited to meet them.

Also, as part of the B3 program, volunteers are committed to providing over 3,000 hours a year in community service to address issues in our local neighborhoods.
