Support the Juárez Toro Family After an Unexpected Setback in his Recovery

First, thank you to everyone who supported the Juárez Toro family after Jorge suffered a stroke in June of last year. Thanks to your support, his family standing unwaveringly by his side, and good medical care, he was progressing well in his physical and neurological recovery.

Unfortunately, on December 13, Jorge suffered a second stroke and has been in the inpatient rehabilitation department of Virginia Hospital Center since that date. While his physical recovery is progressing, the progress on regaining his speech and some fine motor skills has been slower than he or his family would like to see.

The family has been doing what they can to face this new challenge, but they find themselves again a position where they need the help of their friends and neighbors to get through the next few months of rent and basic necessities while Jorge continues to recover. If you were able to give to this amazing family last year, it would be wonderful if you could consider supporting them again in this new time of need. Thank you so much.

The original request for support (June 2025):

As some of you may be aware, on June 10, Jorge Juárez suffered a serious stroke and has been in the hospital since that time. While Jorge is slowly recovering from the stroke -- regaining some ability to walk and undergoing speech and occupational therapy to recover additional abilities -- he will be unable to return to work for the foreseeable future.

Jorge is the primary breadwinner for his family of four -- his wife Carla and their two daughters, Alejandra and Carol. Alejandra just graduated from The Potomac School and will be starting at the College of William & Mary this fall, and Carol just finished 5th Grade at Escuela Key Elementary. Unfortunately, because Jorge was on his way to work when he suffered the stroke, his employer is not able to provide any financial support during this time.

The purpose of this GoFundMe is to help the family cover rent, basic necessities, and any medical expenses not covered by health insurance, for the next 3-6 months until Jorge is hopefully able to return to work.

For those of you who know this family, you will know that Carla has been an absolute rock for the Spanish-speaking community at Escuela Key, leading the PTA's Padres Latinos Unidos group for many years and providing advice, resources, and support to the Spanish-speaking community at Key and to her neighbors in the Woodbury Park Apartments. She had also been an active member of the Arlington Schools Hispanic Parents Association (ASHPA) for many years. Jorge, Carla, and her family are now in need of exactly the kind of support and love that they have given to their neighbors and school community for so many years. Thank you for making this heartbreaking time a little bit less stressful for them by donating as you are able.

This fundraiser is being organized by Erin Aylor, a family friend and fellow parent at Escuela Key Elementary who has worked with Carla for several years on the school's Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

Apoye a la familia Juárez Toro tras un revés inesperado en su recuperación

En primer lugar, gracias a todos los que apoyaron a la familia Juárez Toro después de que Jorge sufriera un derrame cerebral en junio del año pasado. Gracias a su apoyo, al incondicional respaldo de su familia y a la buena atención médica, estaba progresando bien en su recuperación física y neurológica.

Desafortunadamente, el 13 de diciembre, Jorge sufrió un segundo derrame cerebral y desde entonces se encuentra ingresado en el departamento de rehabilitación del Virginia Hospital Center.
