Aid Sarah's Family in Their Time of Need

Sarah Clevenger, my mom, age 43 was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer on June 19, 2024.

She went to the doctor with what she thought was gallbladder stones. They did an ultrasound and found the liver cancer. She was immediately admitted to Metro Health hospital. While she was there, they did another scan and found lung and brain cancer as well. The next day, my mom started chemotherapy. She went through four rounds, and although she was exhausted it did seem to help. She was released from the hospital about a week later.

While she was home, she needed a lot of help. My brothers and I did the best we could helping her with her needs. My family also stepped in to help, running her to her appointments, and keeping her comfortable. She went through another 4 rounds of chemotherapy and after this session, she lost her hair. She then started immunotherapy to try to improve her immune system to help fight off the cancer. My mom was feeling better at this point, almost back to her normal self.

After a bit of time, the doctors did an another scan and seen she has bone cancer. This was another unexpected surprise to the family. The doctors then did an MRI. They seen the brain cancer had spread dramatically and she started 7 rounds of radiation. Going through the radiation was really hard to see how it affected her. She couldn’t do much by herself, and we helped her the best we could.

My mom is now on hospice, the cancer has completely spread throughout her body and is taking over. She isn’t herself anymore, it’s very hard for all of us to process. While we are all suffering watching this unfold, my little brother, Noah, who is 6, doesn’t seem to understand what is happening. My grandparents are taking custody of him, he will need counseling to help deal with all of this.
