Aid Needed for Home Safety Upgrades for Boys
Donation protected
Hi so I'm Melody and my husband and I have Kylar and Dakota. Both boys have a rare condition Smith Lemli Opitz Syndrome which causes many delays in their lives. Both boys are intelligently disabled, have autism, seizures, major behaviors as well as many other medical issues. We are in need of assistance to make modifications to our home for the boys for their safety. Dakota is a busy boy who is very crazy and daredevilish. Our current home has propane for cooking and drying of our clothes. We'll Dakota has figured out even though we have safety mechanisms in place to turn on the propane for the stove without the flame and propane fills our home and we hurry and shut it off and open all the windows to air out the fumes. We are in dire need to change everything over to electric however because the home was built in the 70s the electrician has explained to us that we have to upgrade the current breaker box in order to put us up to code. We are also going to need to purchase potentially a used electric stove and dryer because the current machines are for propane only. We thoughts that we had the money to do this but we have run into many hiccups and now the safety of the boys are the upmost concern. We have reached out to our county and unfortunately these repairs do not fall under the waiver program. I have reached out to another company and do plan to fill out an application however there is a long waitlist. We HATE the thought of asking for assistance but when it comes to the safety of the boys we have to put our pride aside and do what is in the best interest of them. If anyone could share or even just donate a few dollars that would be great. We are not popular people and have been asked to leave multiple churches due to the boys. So we do not have a religious affiliation to potentially get assistance from. So if there is anyone that could assist us we would be very grateful for it.
