Aid Needed for Home Repairs After Flood

I didn’t expect to feel so calm through all of this. It’s strange, really, almost unnerving. But maybe it’s just my relentless need for optimism—like no matter how chaotic things get, I can’t help but believe it’s all going to work out somehow.

People keep asking, “Were you affected by the hurricane?” And I find myself saying, “Not that bad.”

I mean, when you look around and see people who’ve lost their entire homes, it feels like the right thing to say.

We didn’t lose everything. But every day, as I drive out of my neighborhood and see the insides of people’s lives piled up on the curb—soaked furniture, shredded carpets, drywall—it hits me: yeah, we were affected too. Our house flooded, but we’re the “lucky ones” with three floors.

So, when water started pouring in from the backyard and garage in the middle of the night, we frantically hauled what we could upstairs.

We saved the furniture, but our walls, floors, and ceiling are now a sponge of water. And every day, we’re just hoping the ceiling doesn’t make a dramatic entrance into our living room.

But here’s the real fun: figuring out what the hell to do next.

Do you tear out the drywall now, or wait for the insurance adjuster to give the green light?

And then you find out your deductible is $15k—surprise again!

Gotta love Florida insurance policies, right?

And with my business in startup mode, let’s just say there’s not exactly an extra $15k sitting around waiting for a rainy day… or a flood.

Then there’s FEMA—some mythical creature everyone talks about, with paperwork that could double as a novel.

Or the town hall with 40 insurance companies lined up to write checks, and you’re supposed to just show up and somehow make sense of it all.

Meanwhile, every day, another contractor knocks on the door, ready to start tearing things apart, and I’m like, “Sure, if you can just tell me what my insurance covers… oh wait, no one knows.”

All of this while I try to keep working, keep things moving, and not go completely insane. But there’s this added chaos in the air—everyone just trying to figure out where to live, how to rebuild, and make sure life doesn’t totally derail.

And then, because we needed more drama, it rained again last night. Thunder and all. And yes, they’re already talking about another storm on the horizon.

And here’s the plot twist—I’m calm. Strangely calm. It feels like I’m watching it all unfold from a distance, and I just keep telling myself it’ll all work out. Because at the end of the day, you just keep moving forward… one wet, soggy step at a time.

So, here I am, doing something I never thought I’d do—setting up a GoFundMe.

As much as my pride wants to push through without asking for help, when you have a $15,000 deductible hanging over your head and the very real fear of your ceiling and roof caving in, I suppose there comes a point where you have to say, “Hey, I need a hand.

Moral or point of my rant. If possible to send our go fund me link around to get help with our deductible and repairs to get this house safe for my family.

I’d love the support! The funds will go to our insurance deductible and any other costs outside of the scope of the insurance policy.

we need the following repairs:

new roof
new ceiling
new balcony about to fall
new water heater
new floors
walls
on the first floor
drainage system in the backyard
new doors downstairs

depending on what the adjuster thinks we don’t know the scope but we know the deductible is $15k so this is a good start.
