My name is Jennifer Skelton. My parents, Lorrie and Michael Small, were in a serious car accident yesterday afternoon. They were driving home from a doctor's appointment for my mom when a van pulled out in front of them, causing a head-on collision in Windham. The driver of the van wasn’t even looking or paying attention. My dad took the majority of the blow and somehow only has a cut lip and a very sore neck and body. My mom, however, wasn’t as lucky. Both of her arms were cut pretty badly, and initially, she complained of her chest and stomach area being in a lot of pain. She was taken to the hospital via ambulance where they did a CT scan. The scan came back almost immediately showing a serious bleed coming from her spleen. The trauma team went in and successfully stopped the bleeding on her lacerated spleen. My mom is stable, but she can’t move and is in a tremendous amount of pain. I don’t know what her recovery looks like at this moment. My guess is that she has a very long road ahead of her.
What most of you may not know is that my mom has been dealing with multiple, serious health issues for the last year and a half. Health issues that have taken a toll on her body, mind, and emotional well-being. Not only physically and emotionally but financially as well. On top of all they were already dealing with, this accident is completely devastating and incredibly overwhelming for all of us. I’m reaching out to try and ease a few of their burdens. They both will have loss of income due to this car accident, and the days ahead are going to be tough! My husband and I are doing what we can. I would like to help ease their minds… even if it’s just a little bit. If you can’t give anything, that’s totally understandable - times are tough for everyone right now. You can help by keeping us - (especially my sweet mom) in your thoughts and prayers and by giving this a share. I truly believe in the power of prayer and community in times like this.
If you have read this far, thank you so much - I know it’s a lot! If you are finding out about this through Facebook, I’m so sorry. We have been dealing with so much in the last 24 hours. Reaching out to everyone individually would be almost impossible. We have barely slept. There’s still so much to handle, so please bear with us if we don’t respond immediately. Thank you.
