Help Kristen Rebuild Her Home and Safety
I have known Kristen for almost a decade. She is a tremendously strong and dedicated mother and soldier. Through her strength comes a sense of personal pride that sometimes gets in the way of her asking for or accepting help. This is where I, and by extension, you come into account.
Here is a little background into her current crisis.
In Fall 2024, Kristen moved from Fort Bragg, NC to Beaver Falls, PA for her first AGR assignment. With limited time and no base housing available, she found a home through a local realtor. It wasn’t her first choice, but it looked promising—something stable for her young daughter and her aging father.
She did everything right. A VA loan. A clean home inspection (just a small electrical fix). The house passed all the checks. Kristen moved in and started making it a home.
Then everything unraveled.
Within weeks, she noticed leaking from the upstairs bathroom into her kitchen, followed by dampness around the fireplace coming from the roof. A licensed mold abatement company came in—and found extensive water damage caused by long-term flashing failure. Mold had spread down all three floors. Then came the gut punch:
Plumbing out of code.
Electrical worse than reported.
Evidence of a previous fire—never disclosed.
Asbestos in the kitchen sub-floor.
Her insurance company (who will not be named, but have lots of commercials with Sam Elliott and Rob Gronkowski, who both reference military service as a precondition for acceptance) refused to cover any of it, claiming the issues were “pre-existing.”
Pre-existing, perhaps, but these issues were hidden by drop ceilings, false walls, and other issues not found during the home inspection.
Kristen was left holding everything—no ceiling, no safe walls, and no real kitchen. No livable space for her daughter or her father. The cost of repairing everything? More than $100,000.
Could she take legal action? Maybe. But that takes time and more money. Right now, she needs to make the house livable—safe, dry, mold-free.
Kristen served her country. Now she needs help from her community.
Your donation will go toward:
Mold remediation and rebuilding affected areas
Roof and flashing repairs
Bringing plumbing and electrical up to code; it's still knob and tube that is exposed
Replacing asbestos flooring
Making the home safe for a child and her father
Every bit helps. If you can give, thank you. If you can share, thank you. Let's help Kristen get back on her feet and give her daughter the home she deserves.
