Aid Kasper and Dee After Hazardous Home Incident

Help Kasper and Dee Recover from a Devastating Accident

Hello everyone, my name is Jourdan, and my fiancée Abby and I have been close friends with Kasper and Dee for over 15 years. They are two of the kindest, most humble people we know — the kind of friends who would never ask for help, no matter how difficult things get. Abby and I felt we needed to step in and create this GoFundMe on their behalf after a terrible and completely freak accident turned their lives upside down.

What Happened

While Kasper was out of town working overtime in Iowa to support their family, Dee came home to discover that their two beloved dogs — Maisy and Penelope, both gentle and loving Rottweilers — had somehow come into contact with a hazardous, poisonous substance stored in their garage.

The shocking part is that this toxic material had been left behind by the home’s previous owners, dating all the way back to the early 1900s. Believing it was safely stored, they never could have imagined that the substance might get disturbed or fall into reach. Tragically, it somehow got knocked down, allowing the dogs to accidentally ingest and come into contact with it.

When Dee discovered what had happened, she immediately rushed Maisy and Penelope to the emergency vet. Upon arrival, the veterinarian realized the severity of the situation and immediately contacted poison control, which then contacted emergency services. Dee, along with the dogs and their kids, had to be quarantined and decontaminated by a hazmat team before being transported to the hospital for evaluation.

Emergency Response

A full hazardous materials (hazmat) unit was dispatched to their home. The property was quarantined, and even their two children had to be tested and isolated to ensure they were not exposed. Thankfully, after extensive testing, Dee and their children were given the all-clear from the hospital.

However, their home was declared unsafe for occupancy until it can be professionally decontaminated by a certified hazmat crew. Dee’s car, which was used to transport the dogs, also had to be towed and will need full decontamination as well.

Maisy and Penelope’s Recovery

Maisy and Penelope are both still recovering from the poisoning. While they were released from the emergency vet, they remain very sick and weak, requiring ongoing medications, follow-up visits, and close monitoring. Their recovery will take time, care, and continued treatment — all of which come with significant additional veterinary costs. Dee and Kasper are doing everything they can to help their dogs heal and keep them comfortable during this difficult process.

The Financial Impact

While everyone is safe, the aftermath has brought immense financial hardship. From the emergency vet care and hospital bills to the hazmat cleaning of their home and vehicle, the costs are overwhelming.

To put this into perspective, professional hazmat cleanup services in Illinois can range from $10,000 to over $25,000, depending on the level of contamination. That alone doesn’t include medical costs, towing, or follow-up veterinary treatment.

Because of this, we’ve set a goal of $30,000 — which is likely on the very low end of what it will ultimately cost to make their home safe again. Every single contribution, no matter how small, will help them start rebuilding after this devastating and unforeseen accident.

A Heartfelt Reminder

This was 100% a freak accident. Kasper and Dee are incredibly responsible, loving pet owners and parents. The chemical was an unknown leftover hazard from a previous homeowner, and despite being stored safely, their dogs — being naturally curious — got into something that never should have been there in the first place.

Accidents happen, plain and simple. This could have happened to anyone.

Kasper and Dee are the type of people who give everything they have to their family and their community. They would never ask for help on their own, which is why Abby and I are asking for them now.

If you’re able to contribute or even share this campaign, please do. Every bit of kindness will go directly toward helping this family recover and move forward from this tragic, unforeseen event.

Thank you all so much for your support and compassion. ❤️
