Aid Josephine's Family During Ambrose's Last Journey
Donation protected
My friend Josephine is a real-life superhero. She has experienced more adversity than most of us see in ten lifetimes, and she has overcome it all with grace and humility. She has devoted her life to helping others do the same, but now, she needs our help.
Josephine is the mother of four boys, who she raised without the help of another parent. The older two are grown and living on their own, but the younger two, Ambrose (20) and Carmine (17), are still at home with her. Ambrose has been sick for the better part of a decade, in and out of the hospital with a body that is failing. He received a life-saving kidney donation in his teens, but less than two years ago, his body rejected the organ, and Ambrose decided he did not want to spend years on dialysis waiting for a new one that may or may not work. He's spent most of his short life sick, dependent on medications and strict rules, and unable to just enjoy life like a normal kid. So he made a choice to forego any more heroic medical efforts that were not guaranteed to work, and to live the remaining months of his life as free and unrestricted as possible. That was in the fall of 2023, and he has been living his best life since then, traveling the country with his mom and brothers, not beholden to any rigorous schedule of medical procedures for the first time in a decade.
Of course, this has not been easy for Josephine. As a mother, she had a difficult time wrestling with his choice to let his transplant fail and ultimately give up hope of a long and full life. But she respects her son as a grown man who has already lost years of his life to illness. She was there with him through it all, supporting him, and she decided to support this choice as well, as hard as it would be. So she got home hospice check-ins arranged and decided to make his last months his absolute best ones.
I have spent many nights in long, tearful conversations with Josephine over the past year as the ups and downs of Ambrose's health have taken their toll on her, and as life has dealt her additional blows while she struggles to support his choice. She was working two full-time jobs to support them, but was reduced to one at the end of 2024. She also had an accident that totaled her car, and she's fighting to provide for herself and her boys at this time. Ambrose's condition is deteriorating rapidly now, and Josephine should be home with him as his last days are approaching, but the bills don't stop just because your son is dying, and she knows there will be even more to pay for when that day arrives. Any help you can send, please do. Please help this mama be home for her baby and her youngest son during this difficult time. Thank you.
