This GoFundMe campaign aims to raise funds to rebuild damaged homes and farm structures, and to restore the crops and green spaces that so many farming families depend on.
Super Typhoon Opong, with sustained winds of 75 mph, recently swept through the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines, causing severe damage to homes and agricultural land. Among the hardest hit was a farming community in Masbate, owned and managed by a retired couple, Jose Zurbito Gozum and his wife, Arlene.
The storm inflicted extensive damage. Within minutes, powerful winds destroyed greenhouses that sheltered seedlings and a variety of plants vital to organic farming. Countless fruit trees were uprooted, and the once-lush landscape was left in ruins.
The property called Uma (Farm) Koinonia serves as a lifeline for the local community. It provides employment and housing to 35 otherwise poverty-stricken farming families.
Beyond sustaining livelihoods through organic farming training, the center also provides spiritual support, offering Bible teachings and children’s ministry services every Sunday.
With your help, we can bring life and hope back to this community.
