Hi my name is Heather. I am a single mother of two wonderful children. On January 9th I was found unresponsive by my daughter Jalain. She then called my son Gregory who then called 911. The ambulance came and transported me to our baseball diamonds and I was life-flighted to Deaconess Gateway where they found my sugars to be over 700. I had slipped into a coma and was on life support where it was touch go for the first week. I was in a coma for 3 weeks. When I came out of the coma I had lost another toe on my right foot. I began complaining that my back hurt really bad. They had to sedate me to do the mri due to the pain where they found an infection running from the top of my spinal column all the way down my back. They took me out of the mri room and a neurologist was called who then took me to surgery where they opened my back in different spots and they had to file down some of the disk to be able to remove the spinal cord and remove as much of the infection that they could. I was in the hospital for 47 days while in the hospital going through rehab my employer certified mailed me a letter letting me know I was terminated from my job as an aps caseworker for not writing a letter and asking for permission to have medical leave. The letter destroyed me I was doing rehab to strengthen myself enough that I could go home to my kids. I couldn’t believe it because I had kept in touch with my supervisor and colleagues over teams letting them know about my progress. Then all of a sudden one day I no longer could access my work email and my pay stubs for my retirement benefits and extra monies I had been paying into it. I am now faced with the challenge of being paid my bills after being denied unemployment because of the letter. Then just last week Monday June 2nd at 1;30am I was admitted into Wabash General Hospital due to my sugars being 24 and being unresponsive. I ended up being admitted into the hospital because my sugars would not stay up unless I had the constant fluids with D10 running and at night receiving D50 injections due to the sugars getting to low. They also found that my ferritin levels were low and my B 12 levels that I had B 12 injections everyday and an iron transfusion. I finally was able to keep my sugars up on my own and they let me come home. I now will not only have to drive to Evansville to see my GI doctor and neurologist, but will have to go to see an endocrinologist and see a hematologist weekly. With having no money this makes my anxiety run even higher because now not only do I have to find a way to pay my bills, but also fund trips to the drs food, drink, and gas. This will also help with the over 10,000.00 in medical bills, and helping get Heather a new battery for her car so she can get around to her numerous doctor appointments. I was hesitant about starting this because I hate that I’m having to reach out for help and my mom and sisters don’t have the resources to help or they would. I would appreciate all the thoughts and prayers and help that you maybe be able to do. Thank you so muc, and may God Bless You.
