Aid for Veteran's Wife Facing Potential Loss of Home

In a world that often moves too quickly, I feel compelled to share the heartbreaking story of my parents as they navigate an unimaginable struggle after 43 years together.

My father, a devoted Vietnam Veteran, dedicated his life to protecting others, making significant sacrifices for our country. Due to his exposure to Agent Orange, he was diagnosed with diabetes at just 38 years old, and his life took a tragic turn when he lost his eyesight due to diabetic retinopathy. By 2000, his retina had detached, leaving him completely blind within six short months.

For the past 25 years, my mother has been his steadfast caregiver, facing each challenge with remarkable strength and resilience. She devoted her life to ensuring he received the best care possible, always putting his needs before her own. My father went home to be with the Lord on September 26th at 4:30 AM, fighting his final battle. While this is an overwhelming loss for my family, we find a sense of peace knowing that he is no longer in pain.

During his struggle with congestive heart failure and cirrhosis of the liver—both linked to his exposure to Agent Orange—my father endured immense suffering, which took a severe toll on him both physically and emotionally, pushing them to the brink of despair.

Now, as my mother faces the harsh reality of loss, she is overwhelmed by the possibility of losing everything—the home she has cherished for 15 years, filled with precious memories of love, laughter, and shared dreams. The VA denied my father life insurance due to his age, leaving her with an unexpected financial burden. To make matters worse, the VA has informed her that she may receive only a minimal monthly benefit now that he’s passed—barely enough to keep her from becoming homeless.

What’s truly disheartening is the government’s response to her sacrifices. They have told her, “Most spouses can go back to work after their loved one passes. You’re the exception because you’ve been his caregiver for so long.” This dismissive statement adds to her feelings of isolation and despair, failing to recognize the depth of her dedication and the emotional toll she has endured.

At 67, with the prospect of returning to work out of reach, my mother is devastated by the thought of losing her home after the loss of her husband—the one place that has provided comfort and stability throughout the years. From June until his passing, she was by my father’s side every single day in the hospital, holding onto her faith and praying for strength as she grappled with the reality of their situation. Each day brings new heartaches, and the weight of her worries feels heavier than ever.

In light of these overwhelming challenges, I’ve created this GoFundMe to support her during this incredibly difficult time. The funds will help her pay off the house, ensuring she can keep her home and prevent the unbearable thought of losing everything they’ve built together.

Please join me in honoring their sacrifices and offering support as she navigates this difficult chapter. Your kindness and generosity mean more than words can express, and every little bit helps make a significant difference in her life. Thank you for being a part of this heartfelt journey.
