We are the former participants of Bloom House, a shelter diversion housing program previously operated by Werq Together, a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded by Eli Gray. After we suggested 3rd party mediation to address communication issues between Eli and us on 3/9/26, Eli responded with, "If you think it's come to that point, I'll just break the lease." and messaged us that the lease will be terminated on 3/31/26 and immediately started packing and moving items owned by the org the same day. We still live here!
This announcement caps the program at 42 days, less than halfway through the originally agreed upon 90-180 day program provided to help us procure resources, employment, and eventually stable housing outside of Bloom House. Eli contracted movers and moved all the Bloom House furniture on 3/21, leaving us with an extremely uncomfortable environment to occupy until they think they can kick us out. We still have yet to receive any official or posted notice to vacate and Eli is actively trying to deny our tenant rights.
As we are not given the opportunity to complete the program, if Eli is successful in forcing us out of the Bloom House on 3/31, each of us will have nowhere to go other than the streets or shelters of Portland. As trans people that trusted a trans organization, the majority of us from out of state, this feels like a betrayal. We were set up for failure, not success. After discussing the program with outside organizations and professionals, it was made clear to us that a 90-day ready to rent program is not nearly enough time to get folks stabilized with housing and employment. And yet, we were given less than half of that time.
We are asking for the financial help to fund our survival after our housing at Bloom House ends. These funds will go towards legal fees, food for our pets, hygiene products, and other emergency costs that arise.
